Another story.

The Mid-County Chronicle published a story regarding the vacated seat on the Nederland City Council. If you don't care to read about it, I suggest you don't read this post. I began to read the words carefully that was printed in that paper is was amazed {not shocked} at what I had read.

Paragraph three read as follows...
Sawyer, 76, had decided in the spring of 2005 not to run for re-election and when his term expired, stepped aside for Tim Sheffield who won that spot.

What did Sawyer admit? He admitted that he {Sawyer} stepped aside for Sheffield to run. Let's read some more...

In another few paragraphs it read...
Sawyer said he submitted his resume to City Hall because he felt he could help the council with his experience.

"I didn't have any intentions of running again, but when this (Sheffield's resignation) came up, I decided to offer my help," Sawyer said.

He decided to offer his help? Help with what? I guess the answer to my question is that he thought he would help with his experience. My question is what did he {Sawyer} not accomplish when he first was appointed in 1972? He served on the council until 2005, I mean come on. He's a life long officeholder.

I think the whole appointment was crap. You have to read what Bert Rogers said. It's the funniest thing ever. Here we go...

Bert Rogers, councilman for Ward IV and current Mayor pro tem, said his nomination of Sawyer stemmed from his many years of service and his attendance at regular meetings of the city council and economic development corporation (EDC).

"I can count on one hand the number of times he (Sawyer) has missed meetings," Rogers said. "He has continued to stay involved."

Okay. Come on folks. Do you know what time the meetings are? On the 2nd Monday of the month the meeting begins at 3pm and on the fourth Monday of the month the meetings start at 6pm. Now you tell me, who in the world can attend meeting at 3pm on a Monday who isn't retired or who doesn't have their own business? Mr. Sawyer is retired. That's why he has attended all meetings. He has nothing to do. The other applicants have a job. That statement by Rogers pissed allot of people off including myself.

As I stated in my previous post, all this was premeditate. If the council truly wanted to focus on the future they would of appointed someone who they could mentor and teach. The council had a golden opportunity and they passed on it. Imagine that!

In other news....

I wonder who wants to be the next Mayor of Nederland. The election is May 10, 2008. Some names I hear are being tossed around...Bert Rogers, Debbie Griffin...just to name a couple. Of course, it's still early. They defiantly won't have my support. Especially Griffin who continues to slander my name. Saying things like..."that ortiz boy had some good ideas but he continues to challenge the council". News Flash Debbie...my job as a citizen is to hold elected officials accountable.

That's all today. Thanks for reading...
