Sources with the City of Nederland tell me that over 600 ballots of been cast early in the Mayor race. This year’s early voter turnout is more than last the Mayoral election in 2004 which 1231 ballots were cast total. Both young and old have been coming out to vote. With three candidates running it will be tough for one person to pull it off on Saturday but it can be done. Traditionally, with more than two candidates it’s automatically assumed a run off. I feel as though that will not be necessary. But we will see.
The last time more than two candidates ran for the office of Mayor in Nederland was in 1994. Those citizens were:
Bobbie VanAuken 358
Carl N. LeBlanc* 1,065
Ceyril Paulus* 499
Kelvin Goyesn 231
Thomas (Tom) Wandeloski 79
A run off was not needed in that election.
