Council members paused only slightly before also approving the release of 91.9 acres of property near Dorothy's Front Porch from its extraterritorial jurisdiction.

Dr. Rao Kothapalli of Triangle Acquisitions is planning a residential development and will be seeking annexation to Nederland, according to information from the city.

Kothapalli told city officials he plans to divide the land into more than 100 lots for homes.

Ortiz said it would be cost-prohibitive for the city to run water and sewer services that far from its center. Besides, whichever city actually controls the land, the development still would bring in about 100 new families who would mostly likely shop in Port Arthur businesses, and the city would reap the sales tax reward.
