Five clubs that make up Beaumont's Crockett Street Entertainment District will close effective Tuesday, July 1st. That move will affect the 160 employees who work there. Jeff McCarson, the says those employees losing their jobs is what's toughest on him about his decision. McCarson issued this statement to KBTV-4 Sunday evening, he said, "Because of the existing uncertainty of our economy, personal reasons, and the enormous expense of running Crockett Street, I've chosen to terminate my lease with Crockett Street Entertainment District. Thanks to the patrons and the many dedicated employees who supported this project. Hopefully at some point in time, someone can assume the reins and move Crockett Street forward." McCarson says the restaurants at Crockett Street, which are Spindletop, Rio Rita's, and the Neches Room, will remain open. The businesses that will close are Black Cat Lounge, Dixie Dance Hall, Antone's, Texas Star Bar, and Ten Lounge. McCarson says he's been a tenant at Crockett Street for 4 years, his lease began in July of 2004. As for the acts booked at the clubs, McCarson says the big acts like Cross Canadian Ragweed and Charlie Robison , will be moved to Whiskey River, and the smaller acts will be canceled.
