School Bond issues and athletics go hand and hand

If you go back to proposed school bond issues in the past one thing is certain: they all include thousands of dollars to be used for athletic purposes. Before I go on, let me just say, I'm a sports fanatic. BUT, in the next breath I have to say this is getting out of hand in this area.

Late last night I was reading a story that KBTV 4 reported on citing Lumberton I.S.D School board members voted unanimously to approve almost a million dollars of ADDITIONAL money. The additional funds will be used for renovations to district athletic facilities.

The additional money will be allocated if both bonds pass. $400,000 will be used for renovations to the boys high school field house. $125,000 would go to repair the high school gym floor. $110,000 to fix the bleachers, and $250,000 will go towards the building of a barn.

Let's fix our schools first and then worry about state of the art athletic complexes. Don't forget about the band and choir. They are also electives.
