This year continues to be the year of the young voter or as Business week said there continues to be a “Youthquake” in politics in 2008.
See some statistics below from Rock the Vote and CIRCLE on yesterday’s amazing turnout numbers for young people.
Young voters in Tennessee quadrupled their turnout last night, up from 35,000 in 2000to nearly 140,000 young people between the ages of 18-29 casting a vote in last night’s primary.
Georgia young voters tripled their turnout this year with more than 280,000 individuals casting a ballot last night compared to approximately 92,000 ballots cast in 2000.
The youth share of the electorate increased in every state, with significant gains in states like:
California - 16%, an increase of 7% over 2004
Georgia - 18%, an increase of 6% over 2004
New York - 15%, an increase of 6% over 2004
