Nederland City Council votes to put Bond Issue on May Ballot

The Nederland City Council voted to place a 4.5 million dollar bond issue on the May ballot. If the bond issue is approved by voters, the money will be used to replace around 12 miles or so of old concrete sewer lines.

In other news, the council heard comments from citizens regarding enacting a smoking ban within the City of Nederland. Numerous citizens cited that they were for the ban. In my opinion, this decision should be left up to the voters through an election.

In political news, current Nederland Mayor Dick Nugent filed for re election. Ward 2 council member Billy Neal and Ward 4 council member Bert Rogers are expected to file, also.
