Taxes up

It's official. The taxes in Nederland go up yet again. City Council voted to adopt a tax rate of .594830 per $100 of assessed valuation for the upcoming fiscal year.

This time, the City has a reason to increase taxes. The city gets two more police officers. Something that myself and Mr. Darrin Dykes campaigned hard for this past election season but were told "we didn't know what we were talking about". Hmm maybe we did know a little something?

In other news, the council appointed Councilwoman Debby Griffin and Nederland ISD Assistant Superintendent Stuart Kieschnick to open seats on the NEDC Board of Directors.

I'm totally against appointing elected city council persons to the EDC board of directors. It should be an appointment made by each council person to a citizen within the ward they represent. Maybe the current council should consider that.

Rao's bakery is opening in Nederland! The NEDC gave the bakery over $94,000 in incentives to locate here.
