Tonight, the Nederland City Council made a devastating decision.
The council voted to uphold a previous decision to hold a street maintenance tax election in November that would take a quarter cent of tax away from the Nederland EDC.
“You can’t just look at the short term, you have to look at the long term solutions to the city’s problems,” she said. (PANEWS)
Tracy hit the nail on the head. The council has never looked at the long term solution.
Let's breakdown what this means to the Nederland EDC.
Killian said in a year, the EDC offers nearly $500,000 in incentives to new businesses. Taking away just a quarter cent from the corporation would add up to $400,000 to $425,000 in yearly loses. (PANEWS)
Looks like the council just made a decision to shut down the EDC.
Does this surprise me? Hell no! This is Nederland City Council at it's best.
All I know is that enough is enough. This crap has to stop. The current council could care less about the citizens. Somehow these elected officials continue to be elected and continue to make poor decisions in the best interest of themselves and not the citizens.
Let's see...who is up for re-election in May 2008...Bert Rogers and the mayor seat (if you didn't know Bert Rogers, Mayor Pro Tem is the acting Mayor while the elected mayor is ill).
It's time to get these people out of office. They are incompetent and certainly don't care about the future of this city.
This decision should upset every citizen of the City of Nederland.
My Suggestion:
Every citizen must vote against this measure on November 6!
