Late last week, The Southeast Texas Political Review first reported that early voting locations were changed to other sites in Beaumont in a "closed door meeting". For the record, the early voting location in Nederland was changed from the Nederland Recreation Center to Nederland City Hall, also.
In an email that I recieved from the SOS it stated the following:
"It is not illegal. Depending on the circumstances and if time permits, the governing body should approve the change first; if time doesn’t permit, they can ratify it after the election. In all circumstances, the change must be submitted to the Justice Department for approval."
I reviewed the minutes from several commissioner meetings and finally on April 9 I found where there was a change of a couple Election Day polling locations but not an early voting polling location.
There are no minutes that proves a ratifaction was voted on to change any early voting polling locations.
The next question, was the change submitted to Justice Department for approval? I'm working on that answer.
