Nederland City Council Meeting - 5/22/06
On May 22 the Nederland City Council held their last meeting of the month at City Hall.
The first item of business was to canvass election returns from the May 13th election and the swearing in of Mayor and Councilmember’s for Ward II and IV. I had the privilege to address council the voting totals. Council then passed action authorizing payment of election officials in accordance with the Texas Election Code in the amount of $928.00. Council then voted (5-0) to elect Councilwoman Debby Griffin as Mayor pro tempore in accordance with Section 3.06 of the City Charter.
Council then voted on a request from Sunoco Partners Marketing & Terminals L.P. for a tax abatement. In a 5-0 vote, council approved a tax abatement totaling $28 million dollars.
Council then approved a contract worth $52,000 to Consulting Engineers, Inc. for engineering services related to the Fiscal Year 2006 Water and sewer Improvement project, Texas Community Program. The area in which the engineering took place was along Gage Avenue, Atlanta Avenue and Boston Avenue…
Council approved ordinance 2006-07 in which address Recreation Center and swimming pool hours of operation, fees and policies.
There are some changes in policy regarding the Recreation Center. Please call the City of Nederland Parks Department for more information. It was said the Recreation Center will be opening within the next month.
Council considered action approving Change Order Number 2 with Brystar Contracting, 2004 Smoke Test for the Year 1 project in the amount of $16,500. The area in which the smoke test took place was from 33rd Street – 35th Street, Helena Avenue….
Council then considered and approved a street light request. They then approved payments to numerous companies:
• N&T Construction - $131, 784.49 (Hurricane Rita renovations of the Recreation Center, Hughes Library)
• Neches Engineers - $2,229.15 (Hurricane Rita roof repairs)
• The LaBiche Architectural Group, Inc. - $6,196.60 (Hurricane Rita renovations of the Recreation Center, Hughes Library, and Fire Station.
• Brystar Contracting, Inc - $45, 575.00 (emergency sewer line repair including areas along Hardy Avenue and Avenue A…)
There was not an Executive Session.
Council then voted to adjourn at 6:50 P.M.
