Dear Readers, www.jeffortiz.com
Some of you requested that I post my vision from my last campaign for City Council. So, I did.
Also, I would like to introduce you all to a site that I have been reading weekly. The site is called Tascforce headed up by Rhonda Dugas. Rhonda had been a voice in Jefferson County for a while now. Whether you think she may be right or wrong, at least she is taking the effort to stand up and be counted.
Over the weekend I read that the "City of Nederland is taking the airport thing very seriously". The airport thing is in reference to taking over the Airport's Fire Department. (This "idea" was part of my vision in my last campaign.) In a recent City Council meeting, the City Manager stated that if the City would take over the FD the expenditure would be $500,000 to $600,000 per year and the property would be nontaxable, therefore, the burden would be placed on our citizens.
Acquiring the FD is part of growing our city. Nederland is land locked as we all know. Nederland must use the resources made available to them to better our city. With development on highway 69 (sunset village) and with Parkway Village about eight minutes from the FD on Boston Avenue I would think acquiring the airport's FD would be a high priority. We will see what happens.
