No Evacuations Planned for SE Texas Region

NEWS RELEASE FROM BEAUMONT EOC

Emergency Management Officials in Southeast Texas are continuing to monitor Hurricane Ike. Based upon the current t rack and predictions provided by the National Weather Service, there are no planned evacuations for the region.

At this time, emergency management officials are focused on contingency plans in the event that Hurricane Ike begins to threaten our area. Should that happen and an evacuation of special needs is necessary on short notice, plans are being formulated to expedite the process.

State Officials have emergency personnel posted from Beaumont to Brownsville monitoring the track of Hurricane Ike. If needed in this area, State Troopers will be called in from around the state to assist with traffic control issues.

Those individuals who have not already registered with 211 can still do so. Those citizen's who wish to leave the area at this time on their own, should be aware that some coastal communities have begun evacuations. Routes to our west may be heavy with evacuating traffic.
