News Release: City of LaPorte, TX

Just got this at work from the office of emergency management for La Porte, Texas...

At this time the City of La Porte is not going to issue evacuation orders for Hurricane IKE. We may tomorrow issue voluntary evacuations orders for our low lying areas. We are preparing the City for a Category 1 hurricane strike with 6-8 feet of surge in the La Porte area. We are also preparing for 10” of rain and localized street flooding. We will not have a shelter available for the public and at this time have not been asked to open our shelter for industry essential personnel. We are currently focused on a landfall timeline tropical storm force winds reaching the La Porte area between 0800 and 1200 on Friday.
