FEMA Offering Financial Help With Hotel Costs For Gustav Evacuees

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff has announced that FEMA will cover a portion or all of the hotel costs for evacuees affected by Hurricane Gustav.

FEMA has offered to reimburse eligible guests in the amount of the federal per diem for their area.
To find the current federal per diem rate for a city, visit http://www.gsa.gov/Portal/gsa/ep/perdiem.do?pf=y&queryYear=2008&queryState=Texas

If the hotel property is not located in a metro area with a specific per diem amount, the amount of reimbursement is $70 per night.
Evacuees who have already checked out of a lodging facility can apply for reimbursement by registering with FEMA.
Those evacuees must register with FEMA online at www.fema.gov or by calling (800)621-3362.

The evacuee should complete and submit a disaster assistance application form.
These evacuees will receive reimbursement directly from FEMA, and not from the lodging facility.
