Bored: Saturday Update

Storm Update:
Texas and Louisiana
Things are looking much brighter for Louisiana, as the GFDL model has come in line with all of the other models in predicting a landfall in Southern Texas or Northern Mexico. It now appears likely that Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula will knock Dean down a category or two before it can approach the Texas coast. The upper level low that was forecast by the GFDL to potentially steer Dean northwards appears to be weakening and moving westwards, out of the way of Dean. If this low continues to weaken and move westwards, it will not be able to swing Dean northwestwards towards northeast Texas and Louisiana. If Dean does manage to catch up to the upper level low, the counter-clockwise circulation around the upper low will bring some south-to-north winds over Dean that would steer it on a more northerly track into the Gulf of Mexico. Moving on...

I normally don't write anything on the weekends since I'm so busy but this weekend is different. There is absolutely nothing going on today. Seems like everyone is in some type of panic since everyone "thinks" the storm might head this way. Last night, while at Walmart I couldn't help but laugh when I saw people with 3 or 4 buggies full of items. People are really taking this storm serious. As they should. I'm proud of the citizens of Jefferson County.

I'm currently at work sitting at my desk. Central Mall is dead. If you didn't know, it's Tax Free weekend but the only people here today are kids. In which, I highly doubt they are shopping. Is anyone at Parkdale? I believe I can answer that question myself.

My thoughts on "Dean":
Storms such as "Dean" have a mind of its own. It will go where it wants. I liked what a meteorologist stated, "Hurricanes will do exactly what they need to do ... to continue to stay alive..." that sums it up. We need to be prepared. Will it come here? Who knows. Who cares. If this storm doesn't another might. Preparation is the key.

Have a great weekend!
