Jefferson County Clerk says that she will no longer conduct future joint elections with cities in Jefferson County. This doesn't come to any surprise. She's been saying it since the May 13th.
Below is a memo sent from the SOS in reference to the May 12 election.
TO: County Clerks/Elections Administrators, County Judges
FROM: Ann McGeehan, Director of Elections
DATE: February 22, 2007
RE: May 12, 2007 Constitutional Amendment Election
Please be advised that yesterday the Texas Legislature passed Senate Joint Resolution 13, which places a proposed constitutional amendment proposition on the May 12, 2007 ballot. We will contact you in the near future with election preparation materials in our normal manner. However, we are sending this memo to notify you that a statewide election will occur on May 12, 2007 so that you can plan accordingly. We are receiving many calls from you regarding how to proceed since many of your local jurisdictions are finalizing plans for conducting their May elections. We strongly encourage you to make every effort to conduct joint elections with your local jurisdictions to share polling places and election expenses.
Several of you have requested the ballot language, and we are happy to provide it to you for your general information. However, this language has not yet been translated into Spanish, which is of course required for the official ballot. The ballot language is:
"The constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature to provide for a reduction of the limitation on the total amount of ad valorem taxes that may be imposed for public school purposes on the residence homesteads of the elderly or disabled to reflect any reduction in the rate of those taxes for the 2006 and 2007 tax years."
Please contact us if you have any questions about this upcoming election. Thank you.

So, she knew at least since February 12 at the latest to get her office in order for the May 12 election.
Seems to me she acts like the cities came to her. I really don't know. BUT if the State of Texas encouraged the counties to oversee the election...then I think she should comply.
After all, she was elected to do a job. So, DO IT! Ms. County Clerk stop trying to get out of what the citizens elected you to do.
Oh and by the way, if you get an election administrator..does that mean that you are elgible for a pay decrease?
