In July and at the request of Dr. Rao Kothapalli the City of Port Arthur gave up 91 acres of land located near Smith, Holmes and Beauxart Garden Roads near Dorothy's Front Porch. Nederland annexed the plot of land and added it to the city.
The problem is still this...a lack of fire and police protection. Before you go any further reading what I have wrote understand I recieved this information completly anooumously. The following information was sent to me through the mail to my work address. I have no way to know who sent this to me.
On January 10, 1996 a memorandum was sent to upper management within the City of Nederland spelling out a Five Year Capital Improvement plan for the fiscal years 1996-1997 and 2000-2001. On that memo are improvements to be made to fire apparatus along with a new fire station and the acquisiation of land. The fire station and land would of been covered over two fiscal budgets with land and architect fees being covered in the 1997-1998 fiscal budget and station construction started in the 1998-1999 fiscal budget.
In April of 1998, some land was identified and another memo was sent to upper management notifying them of the interest of the property.
Eight years later we still have one station that serves a city of 17,000+ citizens. At least our school district noticed that we needed two middle schools. So, should we have a sub station that housed both our Police and Fire departments? Yeah, probably so! I know it takes money but I also know that it takes money to make money.
The question still remains..do the citizens of Nederland need to vote on this issue or can the council make an effort as a whole to find options and monetary ways to fund this project through grants or other ways.

Great information,Jeff. Keep it up!
you should not get information from ex-employees.
I do not know who sent it to me but I have an idea as to who it was. All information is public knowledge so, it doesn't matter anyway.
Newly elected officials shouldn't vote for something that they have no business voting for.
