Hungry Trustees

Hungry Trustees!
by
Jeffrey J. Ortiz

Excerpt: "For a December 15 meeting at the Stilwell Center in Port Arthur, trustees enjoyed a full meal that included grilled ribeye steaks, baked potatoes with fixings, corn on the cob, green salad, rolls, pineapple and coconut cakes, and sweetened tea. The invoice provided by the district also shows trustees paid to rent flatware, dinnerware, tea goblets, table linen/napkins and flower arrangements. This meal was for a regularly scheduled meeting with a full agenda including an executive session to discuss legal issues. According to the agenda for the meeting, there was also a public hearing on Schools FIRST, Financial Accountability Rating System."

Every parent, student and teacher should be raging mad over the actions of the P.A.I.S.D school board. The board has averaged $389.08 per board meeting for FOOD. There is no Financial Accountability! What in the world is going on? So who cares about the kids? Certainly not these school board members they are too worried about eating! There is no excuse for this.

In the KFDM report in reference to why the budget was blown Mr. Weeks stated, "some trustees complained because in some cases they were coming straight from work and did not have time to eat".
I have had enough of this crap. When will someone step up and be a REAL LEADER? When will someone represent the KIDS?!?! I don't think this will happen anytime soon in PAISD. Sad but very true.

To all of you elected officials serving PAISD:

You ran for an office to represent the childen and do what is best for them and the district. You knew what you were getting yourself into. If you can't run to McDonald's on the way from work to grab something to eat, you, my friend, shouldn't be representing the kids. DO NOT depend on the district to feed you! You all have wasted money long enough! Plain and simple. You must restore accountablity and integrity to the office you represent or GET OUT! The teachers, students and parents don't need you!
